Access

To create an authentic feel, there are a variety of ground surfaces, some of which are uneven by nature. There are steep slopes in places, and some buildings and exhibits have stepped access.

The bakery is accessible via a single step into the exhibit. There is a flat level entry door to the side of the building.

Flat entry to the chemist’s and photographers’. The photographers’ is accessed via the chemist’s.

Accessible toilets (male – right hand transfer, female – left hand transfer) are available in the Tea Rooms, Masonic Hall (right hand transfer) and the tram shelter (male – left hand transfer, female – right hand transfer).

The terraced houses have stepped access. Photo packs are available in the Masonic Hall.

There is an accessible entrance to the sweet shop to the right of the building, this route is the exit route for the sweet shop. To access the sweet shop, please join the queue and a member of staff will help you access the exhibit via the accessible entrance.

There is an accessible entrance to the Masonic Hall and the Bank Board Room via a lift from street level.

There is flat level entry to the Co-op hardware store only. Photo packs are available in the Masonic Hall.

Accessible toilets (right hand and left hand transfer) and baby changing facilities are available at The Fairground. Accessible toilets (left hand transfer) available at the Regional Resource Centre.

A wide, gravel path runs through The Fairground. The surfaces of the path are varied.

Rides change from time to time. Please speak to a member of staff for access information for the current ride.

The hill from the Events Field towards the Regional Resource Centre is steep. A handrail is in place at the steepest point. Please be advised that the steep slope can be difficult for wheeled access.

W Smith’s Chemist

A visit to the chemist was usually for medical advice and medicine, visitors can learn about miraculous 1900s “cure alls” stocked in jars of all shapes and sizes on the shelves behind the counter – cobalt blue bottles for syrups and actinic green glass for poisons.
