School Visits
We’re really looking forward to welcoming you to Beamish Museum!
Before your visit
All groups will need to pre-book their visit beforehand.
All groups will be invoiced on the day of their visit. You will only be charged for the pupils you bring. Entry is at a reduced rate for schools; pupils are charged at a rate of £7.50 each, with accompanying adults free in a ratio of 1:5 for over 5s, and 1:3 for under 5s. Pupils under 5 are free of charge, as are those who are classed as carers.
We can’t wait to see you, but if anyone in your group is feeling unwell we kindly ask that they stay at home.

We are offering two complimentary tickets per school when you book so you can visit the museum beforehand. Teachers will find that the visit may be different from previous visits and will need to plan for the learning accordingly.
During your visit
We’re very excited to welcome our visitors to enjoy our open air museum. During your visit, please ask our staff and volunteers if you have any queries, they’ll be very happy to help.
Your booking information will include a map of the museum site which will include the location of facilities such as lunch room and toilets. You may wish to print a copy of this off prior to arrival.
- Please follow the signs and information around the museum.
- Handwashing facilities and hand sanitiser stations are located throughout the museum, please use them regularly during your visit.
- Enhanced cleaning regimes have been introduced site wide.
Our museum exhibits are open depending on staff and resource availability. If there is any particular exhibit that you wish to see on your visit, we would advise you to contact us in advance to make sure this will be open on your chosen date.
School Visits FAQs
Toilet facilities are open across the museum, with enhanced cleaning regimes and hygiene measures. There is no access to the toilets in the Entrance Building for school groups when they arrive. The nearest toilets available will be in The 1900s Pit Village next to Hetton Silver Band Hall, this is a 10 minute walk from the Entrance.
Your group will be allocated a lunchtime space of half an hour for the children to have their packed lunches. It is really important that you stick to these timings as the space will need to be cleaned in readiness for the next educational group. Cleaning resources will be available in each space for you to carry out an additional clean should you wish to.
Beamish Museum has returned to taking cash, so your group is welcome to bring spending money to use during their visit.
