Visit the 1950s welfare hall to see marvellous Meccano creations. Thereβll be a selection of construction sets on display dating from the early 1900s to the present day.
Devised by Frank Hornby to amuse his sons, Meccano was patented in 1901 as Mechanics Made Easy. It became known as Meccano in 1907 and went on to take the toy world by storm.
The North Eastern Meccano Society was formed in 1975 and meets regularly to promote the use of Meccano to create models and the collecting of Meccano in North East England.

Best Foot Forward Walking Group is a short, inclusive and dementia-friendly walk (approximately 1β2 miles) around the museum grounds. We take a relaxed pace, stop regularly to rest, and enjoy the changing scenery. Routes vary week to week.
