Camp at Beamish Museum

The museum offers the opportunity for schools and youth groups to camp overnight. Camping at Beamish Museum offers a unique opportunity for children to experience visiting the museum both when it is open and when it is closed!

1842 Collieries Act

It is 1842 and there are no limits as to who can work in the coal mines. Pupils will discover the working conditions, interview characters who are for and those that are against, then will vote to decide whether legislation should be introduced.

Just One Spark

In 1812, the Felling Mine Disaster killed 92 men and boys after two explosions ripped through the mine. The cause was found to be the use of a naked candle, which ignited the methane gas and coal dust

Whose House is it Anyway?

Pupils will become junior members of Beamish Town Council and it will be their job to decide which one of our diverse families will be moving into Beamish Town Council’s new council house.

An Inspector Calls- An investigation into the life of Eva Smith

The students will be met at the Masonic Hall in the museum’s 1900s town. Here they will be informed that Eva Smith has committed suicide and that they will be tasked with investigating the circumstances that led to her death.
