Carrot Cookies at The 1940s Farm

Children will immerse themselves in the past by taking part in a carrot cookie making activity at The 1940s Farm.

They will meet the farming staff, mix and make their carrot cookies before cooking them and tasting them next to the coal fire.

Meeting at The 1940s Farm, the children will be set the task of preparing and mixing all the ingredients. They will follow the recipe, and each have their individual bowl. Accompanying staff will be able to use hand over hand techniques to ensure all children physically engage in the making of the mixture.

The activity aims:

  • to showcase how the country made do without the imports of sugar during the Second World War.
  • to showcase the differences of life during the Second World War in the rural communities.
  • to give children the opportunity to hand mix ingredients and see them being cooked.
  • to give children the opportunity to experience cooking and tasting of the cookies.
  • to give children the opportunity to see how things were different in the past.
